The Alan Titchmarsh Show - “video games promote hatred, violence and sexism”

The anger I feel about this subject made me feel the need to share. 

Why should the Games Industry be blamed and penalized because of negligent parents who are buying their 13 year old kid the latest 18 game for their birthday without reading the content? 
Alas as long as there are violent games and susceptible kids then the industry will always be blamed.

Thoughts on the matter?

dumb bitches need to be slapped. Video games weren’t made to corrupt children, ask any game developer. I and many gamers aren’t “corrupted” even if we played violent video games (I started around 4). Sure, I play violent video games, how many people have I killed in real life? How racist am I? How sexist am I? The one’s who are “corrupted” had a problem to begin with before the video games. There are tons of normal people who play video games.

Like the op, its more of the parents fault. ESRB rating system is quite good, it really is just the parent’s fault for not really paying attention to the game’s content. Although, I don’t always agree with what the ESRB rating .Would I let my child play an M rated game? Maybe, it depends on the game and his age. He’s not going to wait till 17 to play Halo, that’s dumb, but I’m not going to let him play it at 10. I’ll wait until he’s mature enough to play it. If the game starts to “corrupt” my child, I, as every parent, have the power to turn it off.

So dumb blond, don’t blame the games, blame the parents. Topics like these piss me off.
